5th Grade Parent Teacher Conferences for November 12 & 13th This year the 5th grade students will be having parent teacher conferences different than the rest of our grade levels. Parents will go to the 5th grade hallway to pick up their child’s report card. They can then take a seat outside any of the three 5th grade teachers’ classrooms. There will be a 10 minute timer for each conference and the conferences will be first come, first serve. A scheduled time slot will not be needed. If you need more time at the end of your 10 minutes, we ask that you schedule a different time to meet with that particular teacher. Our special education teacher, Mrs. Grayer, will be taking appointments if you need to meet with her during parent teacher conferences. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on November 12th or 13th!

This week Mrs. Strang was at Ruth McGregor Elementary presenting OK2Say. OK2Say is a Student Safety Program from the Attorney General. Each class was taught the “3 Keeps” of internet safety. They are the following: • I keep safe my personal information. • I keep away from internet strangers. • I keep telling a trusted adult about anything that makes me feel uncomfortable. She also covered the difference between mean/rude behavior and bullying. Remember bullying is an unkind act or words that are done over and over again after being asked to stop. Bullying can also be done online which is called Cyber Bullying. Older students were encouraged to download the free ReThink app onto their cellphones or tablets. This app recognizes unkind things that a child might text to someone and a message will occur that will ask the student if they really do want to send the message. Research has showed that 90% of students will choose not to send the unkind message when they were asked if they really wanted to send. The last part of Mrs. Strang’s presentation for older students was sharing the OK2Say app. This was created to encourage students to report threatening behavior before it occurs. This tool empowers students to share and respond to student safety threats. If you have any further questions visit ok2say.com.
