Abby Shindorf
School Social Worker; District 504 Coordinator; Families In Transition (FIT) Liaison

Hello!

Abby is the school social worker for the 6–12 building, where she is excited to support students within a collaborative and caring school community. She previously worked in home-based child therapy, where she supported children and families in meaningful, individualized ways. While that work was incredibly rewarding, she especially values the team atmosphere and sense of community that comes with working in a school setting. Collaborating with colleagues and being part of a shared mission to support students is something she truly appreciates. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Adrian College in 2018 and her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2019.

Outside of work, she enjoys cheering on Michigan athletics—something she jokingly admits she didn’t have much choice about growing up. She and her family love traveling and exploring new places, particularly those with historical significance (which comes with the territory when you marry a history teacher). Most of all, they enjoy experiencing the world through the eyes of their toddler and embracing all the fun that comes with it.

Abby’s goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where students have access to support when they need it. She strives to offer opportunities for students to take breaks, reset, and problem-solve through voluntary individual sessions or group sessions with peers, helping them build skills and confidence in a positive and supportive environment.

Abby’s message to you: Please do not ever hesitate to reach out if your student needs a little extra support – that’s why I am here!

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
